Hungry Designs

Merry Christmas to you all!

I think I only got so far with my Christmas giveaway updates and things just got too ha-nay-nay for me to handle time wise to keep updating  (it's the busiest time of year for me - doing oodles of commissions and wrapping up the pretty things to be sent out for people's gifts)

One of my fave commissions was this piece for Amanda, the creative lass behind Hungry Designs.

I met Amanda many moons ago whilst doing a pop up shop at Nook in West End. It is so refreshing to meet like-minded creative people who share the same enthusiasm for crafting / drawing/ making pretty things.

Her mum contacted me asking to illustrate Amanda with her lovely stall, and 4 hours later it was finished. I haven't had so much fun working on a commission in so long - and knowing it would play a major part in Amanda's Christmas made it all the more worth while.

Also - I managed to weasel in a sneaky picture of myself and my better half Kris
just before the 25th. Doing this drawing made me realise how long it had been since I drew any 'Sketch Dumps' which would feature many adventures & conversations between myself and leading characters in my life. I shall add this to the 2013 goals list.

Meanwhile I hope you all had a splendid Christmas and enter the New Year with a bang! x

Kings of Carnaby Shop Display

I recently teamed up with the Fashion Gods at Kings of Carnaby to do an illustration for their new Spring & Summer collection.

It is currently set up in their Fitzroy store in Melbourne.
If you're cruising down Brunswick street, be sure to stop by the shop and say hello
(and check out their swoonworthy clothes)

The greatest gift

Check out this super sweet gift from my talented intern Imogen. Coraline is my favorite movie of all time, and she illustrated this for me as to say "Thank you".
How lucky am I? x

Be sure to check her Tumblr out
(ps how good is her wallpaper?)

Faith & Lola Calling all Creatives...

I recently teamed up with a local Brisbane label Faith & Lola for their new promotion.
They want to collaborate with Fashionistas, Photographers, Artists, Bloggers and Stylists by seeing their take on what a 'Faith and Lola Girl is'.

Check out their facebook and send them an email to havefun@faithandlola.com if you're keen to team up.

Rituals Exhibition

This Weekend is the opening night of the Group Exhibition
'Rituals' proudly presented by Letter press guru's The Hungry Workshop and Koskela

Rituals will explore the concept of identity, collaboration and unintended compositions that come through the ritual of printmaking.

The exhibition will display collaborations between paired artists, where one designs a face, and the other a mask. I was lucky enough to join forces with Kindred Studio for our finished print.

Sydneysiders - If you are in Town, please get on down to Koskela Gallery (Rosebery) this Saturday from 5pm!

Check out the Rituals Facebook Event for more details.

I've been busy lately,
and it made me think the other day, that I haven't done any drawings for myself in ages
I've learnt a few important things lately:

Working 16 hour days, 7 days a week catches up with you
Seeing Sunlight on a regular basis is good for you
Catching up with friends should happen twice a week, not twice a month
Not everyone in a gym is there to laugh at how un-coordinated you are.
Blog withdrawals do happen.

I think next fortnight will be much better!
So, on that note, here is the first drawing I did for myself in 6 weeks!
It's only a simple one, but there should be more to come soonskies!

Dance Till you Drop...

I have a group exhibition coming up soon.

The theme is
SAMHAIN: A holiday, falling on the night of the 31 of October to the 1 of November, celebrated by the ancient Celts as a festival marking the beginning of winter and the new year, on which it was believed that the dead could return to the earth on that one night;

I did a test drawing today for an idea I have for a giant canvas or cardstock.

OKAY
So, day 8's drawing.
The 10 day challenge = oober elongated and strung out.
Some things I didn't cater for = organizing my sissy's birthday-slash-surprise party // panic episodes // father's day journal making // market applying // general domestic related errands.

But two more to go. And they are so coming!

I churned this one out, whilst listening to some fabulous music and basking in the sunshine.
I love you spring

P.S thanks to some helpful advice from this very talented lady I shall be watermarking all my artworks from now on. A safe precaution all arty folk should take!

DAY 4

Job No. 773967594 on my endless list of shit to do,
is to make some greeting cards, get them professionally printed / packaged then, cross my fingers and hope they find a home in a fancy shop.
Don't tell anyone though. It can be our secret.

One day. It will happen.

Meanwhile HOORAY FOR DAY NO 4's drawing!
